Police officer suspended after DUI charge (Macon,GA)
By PHILLIP RAMATI
A Macon police sergeant has been placed on five-day suspension pending termination after a driving under the influence arrest over the weekend, officials said.
Anson Paul Pryde, 33, a sergeant with the Macon police, was pulled over Saturday at 2 a.m. during a stop at a license sobriety checkpoint conducted by the Bibb County sheriff’s Highway Enforcement Aggressive Traffic units at Second Street near Emery Highway, Sgt. Sean Defoe of the sheriff’s office said.
Pryde refused to perform a series of field sobriety tests. He told deputies he was taking his girlfriend home.
According to a sheriff’s report, Jordan asked Pryde how much he had to drink, and Pryde said “nothing.” When Jordan asked him again, Pryde blew smoke in Jordan’s face from a cigarette he was smoking, the report stated.
Deputies charged Pryde with DUI and took him to the Bibb County jail, where he later posted bond.
Macon police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet said Pryde had recently been promoted to the rank of sergeant in May and has served with the department for nearly a decade.
